The
Carbon Disclosure Project is a non-profit organization established in the UK in
2000 to expedite the fight against climate change. It collects and reports
information with carbon management from companies, investors and institutions
that have the authority to make decisions about climate change. The world's
leading organizations reveal their effects on the environment by presenting
their carbon emissions, carbon management strategies and target values they
want to reach to the public owing to this organization. CDP studies started in
Turkey in January 2010 under the leadership of Sabancı University and Akbank.
CDP is the only independent international organization that reports globally on
how climate change risks are managed by companies.
As
greenhouse gas emissions and climate change strategies are disclosed to the
public and investors through the CDP, companies and governments can improve
performance by setting carbon emission reduction targets. These data are shared
widely, including institutional investors, companies, public policymakers,
government agencies and academics.
Why
Should You Report to CDP?
Companies
that report to CDP:
-
They are conscious about greenhouse gas emissions and work to reduce them,
-
Take a leadership role in business in understanding the risks of climate
change, deforestation and water scarcity,
- Gain
opportunities to generate income with sustainable products and services
- They
can make their activities more sustainable against climate change and water
crises.
CDP
helps the organization to share its carbon emissions with accuracy on a
completely voluntary basis. Organizations that prepare and present the CDP
Report gain prestige and earn respect at the international level.
