CORPORATE CARBON FOOTPRINT

The Corporate Carbon Footprint is a method that allows to identify the greenhouse gas emissions arising from all kinds of activities under the control of an institution and calculating the carbon footprint in line with the selected limited functional unit. Corporate Carbon Footprint may include Scope 1, Scope 2 and Scope 3 emissions that are under the institution’s control. The Corporate Carbon Footprint Report generates data to help contract-manufacturing companies calculate their customers' product carbon footprints.

The Corporate Carbon Footprint Report is also an important tool for monitoring the improvements made in reducing the greenhouse gas emissions of the institutions.

In order to determine the Corporate Carbon Footprint, the greenhouse gas emission sources in the institution should be analyzed and the monitoring systems should be adequate. Analyzing GHG resource flows and process inputs is an important process in determining the corporate carbon footprint.

If your institution is out of the scope of the Greenhouse Gas Control Regulation and you have never calculated your Greenhouse Gases;

It will be useful to obtain institution’s Greenhouse Gas Emission Inventory, have it calculated, reported and verified.

Regulation on the Monitoring of Greenhouse Gas Emissions

PART ONE

Purpose, Scope, Basis and Definitions

Purpose

ARTICLE 1 – (1) The purpose of this Regulation is to regulate the procedures and principles regarding the monitoring, reporting and verification of the greenhouse gas emissions originating from the activities taking place at the list of ANNEX-1.

Scope

ARTICLE 2 – (1) This Regulation covers the procedures and principles regarding the works and processes of monitoring, reporting, and verification of the greenhouse gas emissions originating from the activities taking place at the list of ANNEX-1, and the determinations of the obligations of the verification bodies and enterprises.

(2) The facilities and sections thereof where research is made, new products and processes are developed and tested, as well as the facilities that exclusively utilize biomass are not within the scope of this Regulation.

ISO 14064 CARBON MANAGEMENT SYSTEM

In order to determine the current status of greenhouse gas emissions, institutions should first develop the Monitoring Plan, have the Institutional Greenhouse Gas Emissions Inventory prepared, have it calculated, reported and verified.

Carbon Management standards such as ISO 14064-1 can be used to systematically manage and verify greenhouse gas (GHG) Emissions and to monitor reduction targets.
